The northernmost prefecture in Japan, Hokkaido. About 56 million people come visit this region annually. Around 2.8 million are foreign travelers and the number is increasing every year.
A new project has been launched here. Called HOKKAIDO TO GO PROJECT, the undertaking aims at communicating new and rediscovered appeals of Hokkaido from a unique perspective, with these two components below. One of them is to show(to tell/to inform) the process and end result of redesigning the souvenirs that will be sold locally in three areas of Hokkaido. We will share how each brand becomes reborn from the packaging through the collaboration of designers and businesses from Japan and abroad. Another component is to provide unique information that is not offered in travel guides. We will share interesting people, objects and sceneries found in mainly the three areas of Hokkaido.
Here, you can find out new Hokkaido, including the souvenirs (âTO GOâ) that make you become eager to take home as well as experience information (âFOR HEREâ) that you could only do in Hokkaido.
Hokkaido is the largest and northernmost prefecture of Japan with spacious land that accounts for 22% of the total area of the country. The summers are comfortable with temperatures averaging around 20ÌC (68ÌF), but it snows in the winter in many parts of Hokkaido, where the temperatures could drop to -10ÌC (14ÌF) or lower. Hokkaido offers visitors delicious meals thanks to the land and sea, snow festivals and other events as well as a variety of leisurely activities such as skiing and camping in untouched nature.

Redesigning the souvenirs of Asahikawa, Kushiro and Yoichi that deserve the attention of the other side of the world
HOKKAIDO TO GO PROJECT is an undertaking involving businesses selected from three areas of Asahikawa, Kushiro and Yoichi of Hokkaido which team up with professional designers to redesign the packaging of six souvenir items. What is particularly noteworthy is the unique style of team building. Local designers as well as designers outside of Hokkaido and even Japan take part in the assignment. Each team promotes the project by bringing a variety of perspectives. All designers will visit the business they team up with and conduct research on the local area. While deepening the understanding of the products, they will newly uncover the appeals of the locality and incorporate such discovery in redesigning the packaging together with the businesses.

Offering the side of Hokkaido not mentioned in travel guides from both an insiderâs and outsiderâs perspective
MAGAZINE will explore the new sides of Hokkaido from a different perspective from that of oridinary travel guides. Focusing mainly on the three areas of Asahikawa, Kushiro and Yoichi, we will introduce fascinating people, companies, new products and never-before-seen sceneries. Together with local tour guides and influencers, we will dig deep to discover the attractions of Hokkaido.
In addition to redesigned souvenirs, we will continuously introduce an up-to-date narrative on products you would want to take home, people you can only meet locally as well as information on unique experiences and destinations.
